The Miracle of Monterrey is based on the true story of the 1957 Monterrey Industrial team. In July of that year, this amazing team of fourteen boys crossed the bridge over the Rio Grande and, on foot, then trudged twelve miles through the desert to play a baseball game. A month later, and over a thousand miles from home, they won the Little League World Series – the first non-American team to ever do so. To this day, Angel’s perfect game is the only one ever pitched in the championship game.
Traveling to New York, they were invited by the Brooklyn Dodgers to a Major League baseball game. When the Dodgers met the boys, it was hard to tell who was more excited, the little leaguers or the professionals. It was then on to Washington, D.C. for a private visit to the White House to meet the biggest baseball fan in the world – “El Presidente” – as the boys affectionately called President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Over half a million people poured into the streets to welcome the team back to Monterrey. No one had ever seen such an outpouring of love. What the boys accomplished still gives hope to underdogs everywhere.
